Generation P
The game is made in C# and Unity. I made this project with 9 others. 5 of which were marketing and 4 others which were developers.
This project was made during the HackTheWaste GameJam in 2018.
HackTheWaste is a 24 hour GameJam and we stayed awake the entire time.
The goal of this game is to tell the players that they’re creating plastic waste which is slowly eating away at our planet.
My primary job was to designing the island with roads and plots in which buildings could be build.
I was also busy with communicating with the marketing team and sending them images and videos of our game to use in their presentation.
Gameplay
The town consists of a number of empty tiles. As mayor, you can select a building type and then click on a tile to add this type of building. You can add houses for people, factories to produce products, supermarkets to sell the products and recycling centres to recycle or destroy the plastic waste. If you click on a recycling centre, you can choose if they have to recycle the waste or burn it. On top of the screen, you can see the waste you produce, the recycled materials you have and the money.
If you let the level of CO2 raise too high, the sea level will rise and the city gets submerged. An educational video about plastic waste is shown.
Reflection
This project thought me a lot about communication between two different teams in different locations and how important communication between those two can be. I’ve also learned how to make compromises to keep both parties happy.
